Substitutious/Hypostitious
Substitutious. The mechanistic equivalent of superstition – the compulsive attribution of generic causes to unique phenomena. Mechanism is about repetition and automation. It is about substituting unconscious activity for personal effort and manual control. If superstitious thinking is the reflex to inflate ordinary coincidence to the will of a God, then the contrary reflex to reduce everything extraordinary into something ordinary would be substitutious . See also hypostition.
